Privacy Policy

What Camsurf collects when you start a video chat with strangers, what it is used for, who can see it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

  • Camera: your call
  • Cookies: browser-controlled
  • Deletion: on request
  • No sign-up needed to try

The one thing to know before anything else: on a video chat product, the biggest privacy variable is not a database you never see — it is what you show and say to the person on the other side of the screen, which they can capture no matter what we build. The Safety Center is the practical companion to this page, and it is worth five minutes before your first match.

Scope of this policy

This policy covers the Camsurf website — browsing, matching, live video calls and accounts. It does not cover third-party services Camsurf relies on to operate (they process data under their own policies), and it does not cover external sites you reach by following a link away from Camsurf.

What we collect

Three buckets, in plain terms. None of them should surprise you if you have used the site.

Account information you give us

If you register, we hold what you sign up with — a nickname, a login method, whatever profile content you choose to add. Messages you send to support and reports you file are kept too, so the conversation has context. If longer or premium sessions can use coins and you buy some, the purchase record sits with the payment side of the product.

Device and usage data collected automatically

Running a live product generates technical data: device and browser type, IP address and the general region it implies, which pages and features you use, and diagnostic logs when something breaks. That is what lets matching work and what shows us which parts of the site need fixing.

Camera and microphone permissions

Your browser asks for camera and microphone access before any call, and granting it is your decision. Live video and audio go to the person you are connected with, for as long as that conversation lasts. You can revoke the permission in your browser settings at any point — the how it works page walks through the first-call flow step by step if you want to see exactly when the camera turns on.

Camsurf video chat — camera and microphone access is granted by you, per call
A video chat starts only after you grant camera and microphone access — and you can take that permission back whenever you like.

How we use it

Everything above feeds a short list of purposes:

  • Running the product — accounts, instant matching, calls and the features around them
  • Purchases — processing coin orders and keeping billing records straight
  • Safety — reviewing reports, investigating abuse, enforcing the rules
  • Fixing and improving — finding what crashes, what lags, what nobody uses
  • Answering you — support, privacy and data requests
  • Legal obligations — where a law requires us to keep or hand over records

What other users can see

Whatever appears on your camera is visible to the person you are matched with — that is the product working as intended. Treat it like publishing, because it is: once another person has seen something, no setting on our side can pull it back.

Screen recording and a second phone camera work regardless of anything we do. So the honest rule is about your judgment, not a feature we can sell you: share gradually, and keep your address, workplace and financial details off camera entirely.

Sharing

We will not claim data never leaves Camsurf — a live product cannot work that way. Information may be shared with:

  • Service providers that operate parts of the product — hosting, payment processing, analytics — bound by their own obligations
  • Other users, to the extent described in the section above
  • Authorities, where the law requires it or where it is necessary to address illegal activity or a genuine risk to someone's safety
  • A successor, if the business or its assets ever change hands

One clarification people ask about: a report you file goes to the moderation team for review under the community guidelines. It is not forwarded to the reported user as a message from you.

Cookies

Camsurf does not run a separate cookie policy page — this section is it. Cookies and similar technologies keep you signed in between visits, remember preferences, support security checks, and tell us in aggregate how the product is used.

Your browser gives you the controls: clear cookies, block them entirely, or allow them per site. Blocking everything is your right; just expect sign-in and a few other pieces to stop working without the functional ones.

Data retention

Data is kept while your account is active and for as long afterwards as the purposes above require. Safety, fraud and billing records in particular may need to outlive an account closure where an obligation or a dispute calls for it. Retention differs by data type, so rather than print one invented number, ask support about your specific case and you will get a straight answer.

Your rights and choices

You have more control than most people bother to use:

  • Camera and microphone — grant or revoke in your browser or device settings at any time
  • Cookies — clear or block them in your browser
  • Profile — you decide what goes on it; less is fine
  • Blocking — one tap stops a specific person from reaching you again
  • Access, correction, deletion — request any of these from support

Depending on where you live, the law may give you additional rights over your data. The Help Center covers the common account questions; anything about your data specifically, take straight to the email below.

Access and deletion requests

Write to us from the email address registered to your account and say what you need — a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion. We may ask you to confirm you are the account holder before acting. That check is not bureaucracy for its own sake: without it, anyone who knows your email could request — or delete — your data in your name.

Children

Camsurf is not for minors. The Terms of Service set the age requirement, and the product is not directed at children. If you believe someone underage is using Camsurf, report the account and it will be reviewed and removed.

International transfers

Camsurf connects people across countries, and the service providers behind it may process data in a country other than yours, where data-protection law may be different. Using Camsurf involves that transfer — if you are not comfortable with it, the honest advice is not to use the product.

Changes to this policy

This page changes as the product does. When an update is material, we will make it visible where reasonably possible; continuing to use Camsurf after an update means you accept the new version. Worth a re-read now and then.

Contact

Privacy questions and data requests go to support[at]camsurf.cc — retype the [at] as a normal @; it is written that way to keep address-harvesting bots off it. For questions that are not about your data, the contact page routes you faster.

Share at your own pace

The practical summary of this whole page: you control the camera, the profile and the conversation, and your first match is free with no sign-up needed to try. Start with whatever you are comfortable showing — and build from there only if the person earns it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Camsurf record my video chats?

Live video and audio travel between you and the person you are matched with for as long as that call lasts. What the other side captures with a screen recorder or a second phone is beyond any platform’s reach — share gradually, and never put on camera something you would not want saved.

Who does Camsurf share my information with?

Service providers that run parts of the product (hosting, payments, analytics), the people you connect with to the extent this page describes, and authorities where the law requires it or someone’s safety is genuinely at risk. The sharing section above explains each category.

How do I request a copy or deletion of my data?

Email support[at]camsurf.cc from the address on your account and tell us what you need — access, correction or deletion. We may verify you are the account holder first, so nobody else can request your data in your name.

Can I use Camsurf without accepting cookies?

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Some are needed to keep you signed in and keep the site secure, so parts of the product may stop working without them — the choice and the controls stay with you.
